As evidence of the historical importance of the Castelsardo area, the Multeddu area is home to the Paddaggiu Nuraghe and the famous Elephant Rock.
This is a large boulder which curiously resembles the head and trunk of an elephant. It is famous for being an outstanding example of a Domus de Janas (in Sardinian – “house of the fairies”), a rock which contained special chambers carved out of the stone in which the bodies of the departed were left.
